PILLARS

Sisterhood

Sisterhood is the bond that holds our sorority together. Being a sister is not only about enjoying the good times together but also being there for each other through the tough times. At the University of Iowa, we share dinners, photo shoots, and haunted houses together. But we also share our dreams, our struggles, and fears together. Each of us are unique in our own way, but our bond of sisterhood is something we all share.

Scholarship

Each of our sisters have dreams. Dreams of becoming future doctors or nurses or researchers. Dreams of becoming future businesswomen. Dreams of becoming future leaders, among other amazing professions. To push one another to strive to become the best that we can be, we encourage each other to academically achieve through studying together, providing academic resources, and sharing our study tips and experiences for those who are struggling.

Leadership

Everyone has the potential to be a leader. It is a matter of harnessing that potential and encouraging one another to continually develop on their strengths. Our sisters develop leadership skills through taking on various positions in the sorority, encouraging one another to attend leadership workshops, taking on leadership roles in other student organizations, attending various alpha Kappa Delta Phi conferences, and reflecting upon our experiences to name a few.

Philanthropy

Our National Philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness. We have an exclusive partnership with Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and every year, we will raise funds for Avon. Avon Breast Cancer Crusade supports education and awareness, screening, and research for breast cancer. alpha Kappa Delta Phi at the University of Iowa dedicates the whole month of October to support breast cancer awareness through hosting bake sales, guest speakers, and other various events.

Asian Awareness

Asian Awareness comes in many different forms, and at the University of Iowa, we try to educate ourselves and the larger community in various ways. In the past, we have hosted a South Asian dance workshop open to the public with an instructor who taught us South Asian dance moves. We also collaborated with Pi Alpha Phi, an Asian-interest fraternity on the University of Iowa campus for a Field Day. In the Iowa City area, we have developed a relationship with I Love Pho, a local Vietnamese cuisine restaurant where we host fundraisers to promote awareness of Asian cuisines. In the future, we hope to expand Asian-Awareness through forums and discussions, guest speakers, and being involved in more community events promoting Asian Awareness.
